As I mentioned earlier, Fiona's language of play is German. Just yesterday, while enjoying a goodbye meal with our French friends, we listened to Fiona, a native English speaker, play cars with Louis, a native French speaking four year old, both of them speaking in German. All four parents listened in amazement as our children found their common language and managed to draw rainbows (Fiona's idea) and race trucks (Louis's idea) without uttering a word of English, French, or a moment of confusion. Interestingly, each child effortlessly switched back to mother tongue when it was time to request the bathroom or a snack, but proclaimed the chocolate cake "Lecker!" or "Superlecker!" which is German for tasty, or, as I'm sure you have figured, super tasty.
How on Earth are we going to replicate that in Haverhill?
